Description: Calling themselves the independents, Monet and his colleagues organized their own exhibition. Contemptuously labeled Impressionists by the press, the title was taken from one of Monet's paintings in the exhibition, Impression: Sunrise because their work appeared unfinished like a first impression. Monet's compositions from this period are loosely structured. The color was applied in strong, distinct strokes as if the pigment wasn't reworked. This technique suggested the artist had captured a spontaneous impression of nature. Impression, Sunrise includes a sculpted frame with gentle engravings designed to emphasize the art. The frame also includes a wooden liner with a subtle fillet. The frame color is black with a rich antique gold accent.
